For Kristin Amarie, local music and world music are the same thing. Amarie has spent her life living in such divergent locales as Norway—where the singer was born—Cyprus, New Delhi and now, the United States. She has also spent time in London, Bangkok, Malta and France, absorbing all of the culture she was exposed to.

Those multicultural roots became apparent with one listen to Notes From a Journey, Kristin’s debut album release, which debuted at number 2 on the Zone Music Reporter chart and reached number 1 at ContemporaryMusic.com. Music journalists raved about the album and radio airplay was robust. Said One World Radio, “Notes From A Journey is an album that everyone should spend time pursuing. It is a release of perfection and a slice of production genius.” Music and Media Focus, said, “While many artists and musicians bring the particular flavors and influences of their native land to their art, Kristin Amarie is truly a ‘global citizen’ and her music reflects the incredible diversity that has been her life experience.”

Now Kristin Amarie is back on Forever Christmas, her first collaboration with her partner David Lanz, the world-renowned pianist and composer. Together Amarie and Lanz have written several new Christmas classics as well as interpreted some of their personal holiday favorites.

Amarie’s roots in music go back to her childhood in Norway when she sang and made up her own tunes. Sensing her potential, Kristin’s parents nurtured her budding talents by providing her with private vocal lessons from some of the best teachers in Norway and Sweden. Early influences ranged from Bach and Chopin to Disney soundtracks. This professional training in her formative years was vital and she developed the vocal skills necessary to be able to perform in a wide variety of musical contexts, including performing with various groups singing everything from Scandinavian folk songs to bossa nova in Europe, Asia and the U.S. More recently her musical frontiers have extended to some of the latest contemporary musical genres, such as her work with Russian ambient/chill producer Solarsoul in Moscow. Their first song, “Hope Never Dies,” made it to number 31 on the Beatport Top 100.

Notes From a Journey, produced by Grammy-nominated producer Alex Salzman in New York, extended Amarie’s reach to a worldwide audience. Among the highlights was a very special guest appearance by David Lanz, who collaborated on a couple of original songs with Kristin and added his artistic touch on piano as well as in lyrics. The album provided the perfect vehicle for Kristin to finally express the full range of her talent, from ethereal Enya-like incantations to lushly orchestrated compositions with echoes of the far corners of the world Kristin has inhabited. “I’ve had some challenging times in life myself and know how important music was to me during those times and how music can function as a healer in many ways,” she said at the time. This belief provides the basis for her goals as an artist and now with Forever Christmas, another side of Kristin Amarie’s glowing vocal style will be exposed to an even larger listenership.
